The MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has vehemently denied having anything to do with the closing of Salt 95.9 FM, a well-known radio station in the Ashanti Region.
The lawmaker expressed surprise and clarified that he had no discussions with National Communications Authority (NCA) officials regarding Salt FM’s closure in response to accusations that he and the NPP government were involved in the shutdown.
Kubi was adamant that, to the best of his knowledge, no government official had anything to do with the shutdown’s inception or influence. Distancing himself from the matter, he emphasized that he was not aware of any attempt by the government to shut down the radio station in his district.
According to reports, Charles Ohene Kwame Frimpong, the owner of Salt FM, organized a health walk that resulted in a protest against the NCA, Kubi, and the NPP government.
Kubi warned against using partisan politics to damage reputations, suspecting a “well-planned and calculated political interest” behind the demonstrations, potentially from political rivals in Asante Akim North.
Notwithstanding the controversy, Kubi expressed support for Salt FM and promised to use his MP status to help the station quickly resume its broadcast.
