The latest episode involving controversial social media influencer and self-described misogynist Andrew Tate, who is also accused with rape and human trafficking in Romania, saw the figure being held in Romania on Monday after an arrest order from U.K. police was served.
According to a spokeswoman for the pair, Tate and his brother Tristan were taken into custody in Bucharest on Monday night and will remain there for a whole day.
According to the BBC, sexual aggression claims from a period between 2012 and 2015 are the basis for the British warrant.
A representative for the Tate brothers informed the Associated Press that a court in the capital of Romania will now decide on Tuesday whether to carry out the British-issued warrants, referring to it as a “pivotal decision.”
The brothers “express profound disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence,” according to the spokesperson, who also stated that they have refuted all charges.
As part of an investigation into allegations of rape and people trafficking, Tate was initially taken into custody by Romanian authorities in December 2022. It took many more months for his confinement to end, and in March of last year, he was finally put under house arrest.
Prosecutors in Romania raised the allegations against Tate and his brother to “human trafficking in continued form” in June of last year, a more serious violation.
Tate stated, “The Matrix is afraid, but I only fear God,” in a post on X. Although a decision in this matter is pending, Bucharest authorities apprehended property worth $3.9 million from the brothers and their associates, including 15 high-end vehicles and cash in various currencies.
