Left-back Andrew Robertson of Liverpool criticized the team’s performance in the 4-1 Champions League loss to Napoli.
The Reds’ first match in Europe was against Napoli, who jumped out to a four-goal lead by the 47th minute.
Despite Luis Diaz’s consolation goal, Liverpool had a disappointing start to the season, winning just two of their first seven games in competitive action.
After their Champions League match on Wednesday, Robertson told BT Sport that his team “deserved” to lose to Napoli 4-1.
We were just too open, the Scotland international stated. You can’t just show up somewhere like this and be this honest. Both of us had chances to win the game.
“We created chances tonight but we deserved this result tonight and they found so many spaces in the first half, it was like they had an extra man and it is not like us.
“You know the crowd are going to be up and you have to be ready to fight, and I don’t think we were close enough to our mate when they went to press the ball. I don’t think we were quick enough. And when you do that, you get picked off like we did.”
Liverpool will want to get back on track against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this coming Saturday before focusing on their Champions League matchup with Ajax the following week.
