Former President John Dramani Mahama has described the late Vice-President of Ghana Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as an ‘efficient Governor of the Bank of Ghana’ during his tenure in office.

Amissah-Arthur, who served as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012, passed away while working out at the Air Force Gym early Friday (June 29).

He reportedly collapsed while working out and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was declared dead.

His death took the entire nation by shock and John Mahama, who has already expressed his shock still cannot believe it on Amissah-Arthur’s one week anniversary.

He took to Instagram Friday, July 6, to express his shock, adding that he served with ‘distinction’ under his regime and was ‘efficient Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Mahama said he first heard the news from his assistant but didn’t believe. He continued that he had to spend more time seeking confirmation before believing it.

He shared a photo of his late vice with the caption: “It is already a week and I still recall vividly my shock when my assistant broke the sad news shortly after I stepped off a flight in Munich.

The time spent seeking confirmation and praying that it wasn’t true was one of the longest waits one has experienced.

Paa Kwesi served with distinction as Vice President, and was an efficient Governor of the Bank of Ghana.”
