The Attorney-General of Ghana, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has spoken out amidst the ongoing ambulance purchase trial, expressing confidence in the righteousness prevailing over evil.

In response to recent developments in the case, where lawyers of the accused have filed various applications at the High Court, Dame quoted scripture saying, “The Lord does not delight in the pleasure of the wicked and even though they lay traps for me, I’ll flee from them. The righteous will always prevail over evil.”

During a court session on Thursday, June 4, presiding judge Afia Serwah Asare Botwe acknowledged receiving four applications filed by the accused persons. These applications include a request for a stay of proceedings pending appeal, an enquiry into the alleged conduct of the Attorney-General, a mistrial plea by Dr. Ato Forson’s lawyers, and a motion to strike out charges against third accused Richard Jakpa.

Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah Yeboah, informed the court that they had submitted an affidavit in opposition to the request for charges against Jakpa to be dropped. In response, lead counsel for Jakpa, Thaddeus Sory, raised objections, questioning the sourcing of information in the affidavit filed by the Attorney-General.

However, Godfred Yeboah Dame defended the affidavit, stating that the objections raised were without merit. He argued that the specifics cited in the affidavit were justified and relevant to the case. Justice Asare-Botwe announced that she would rule on the applications by the parties on Thursday, June 6, and subsequently adjourned the trial.

After the hearing, the Attorney General reiterated his faith in the triumph of righteousness, stating, “Even though they lay traps for me, I’ll flee from them. The righteous will always prevail over evil.” The trial has been marred with allegations of coercion by the Attorney-General on Richard Jakpa to implicate Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the ambulance trial, a claim supported by a 16-minute audio recording revealed by the National Democratic Congress.

Forson’s lawyers have filed an application to investigate the conduct of the A-G, while Jakpa seeks to have the charges against him dropped.
