Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has stood by his superior, Godfred Yeboah Dame, amidst controversy over his suitability to address lawyers at the upcoming Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Conference.
In an interview with Joy News’ PM Express, Mr. Tuah Yeboah dismissed claims that the AG would be prevented from speaking at the event, emphasizing that there are no grounds for such action.
Addressing the criticism from the GBA regarding the AG’s remarks following a recent court ruling, Mr. Tuah Yeboah called for clarity on where exactly the AG’s comments were deemed inappropriate.
He defended the AG’s right to challenge a judgement and file an appeal if necessary, noting that his statement was well within the bounds of professional conduct. Mr. Tuah Yeboah clarified that the AG’s comments were not aimed at attacking the judges but rather expressing disagreement with the ruling.
On the other hand, GBA Public Relations Officer Saviour Kudze expressed disappointment in the AG’s choice of words, labeling them as unwarranted for a leader of the Bar. He questioned whether similar language would be used if the court’s decision had been in the AG’s favor.
While acknowledging the AG’s right to disagree with a court verdict, Kudze stressed the importance of maintaining decorum and professionalism in public statements.
The ongoing debate between the GBA and the AG highlights the delicate balance between expressing dissent and upholding the integrity of the legal profession. As the controversy continues, both parties are urged to engage in constructive dialogue to address their differences and uphold the principles of justice and respect within the legal community.
