Amazon raise the cost of a Prime membership

The retail behemoth has announced that from next month, the price of a Prime subscription for UK users will increase.

Its Prime shipping and streaming service now charges more money due to “increasing inflation and operating costs.”

Currently, Prime memberships come with free, unlimited shipping from Amazon’s website as well as access to live sports and entertainment streaming through the Prime program.

Amazon said that starting on September 15 for new customers or the date of the customer’s subsequent renewal, the monthly cost of Prime will increase from £7.99 to £8.99.

In the UK, annual membership will rise from £79 to £95 per year.

With original shows like The Boys and The Terminal List, Amazon has recently invested billions of pounds in its streaming content.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power series, which cost an estimated £750 million in rights and production costs, will be made available on Prime Video in September.

In addition to spending millions on sports rights, the firm just acquired the rights to broadcast select Champions League games beginning in 2024, in addition to its existing rights to broadcast 20 Premier League games per season.

The service hasn’t seen a price hike since 2014, and it’s for Prime.
