A 44-year-old medical emergency assistant, Francis Kweku Eshun, has been sentenced to three years in hard labor for fraud by the Amasaman Circuit Court.
Eshun admitted to taking GH¢15,000 from William Sackey under the false pretense of securing him a lawyer and surveyor to facilitate a court case in Amasaman. However, he was discharged on a fraudulent breach of trust charge due to insufficient evidence supporting the charge.
The court has directed the prosecution to provide disclosures to the convict on a third charge he pleaded not guilty to. Eshun is also facing charges for allegedly stealing GH¢30,000 from the complainant and is set to appear in court on July 18, 2024.
According to Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru, the complainant, Simon Sackey, who is a health worker residing in Ablekuma, entrusted Eshun, a Medical Emergency Assistant, to complete various projects in his uncompleted house. However, Eshun failed to utilize the funds provided for the intended purposes, including painting, tiling, and electrical work.
It was also revealed that Eshun failed to deliver on promises to secure legal and surveying services for a court case, resulting in unjustly collecting sums of money. Despite refunding GH¢30,000 out of GH¢50,000 from a fraud case, Eshun could not account for the money during investigations.
Following his arrest after a police report was filed, Eshun disclosed that he had defrauded and stolen a total of GH¢47,800 from the complainant. The court proceedings resulted in charges being laid against Eshun for his offenses.
