The truck driver who was engaged in an accident on Monday with a Sprinter bus close to the China Mall on the Amasaman-Nsawam route has been placed under arrest.
Despite being transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, due to injuries, the driver’s mate chose not to receive medical attention there.
A Tipper truck and a Sprinter bus collided on Monday, February 5, 2024, near the China Mall on the Amasaman-Nsawam route.
The truck reportedly failed to brake and smacked the Sprinter bus from behind, forcing it to overturn. The bus had been slowing down because of a pothole.
Seven people tragically died and six others suffered varied degrees of injuries.
The hospital administrator at Ga West Municipal Hospital in Amasaman, Mr. Bernard Fiifi Polley, disclosed that, on Monday, at approximately 4:30 PM, a police officer and a KIA truck arrived at the hospital carrying thirteen accident victims.
Six of them, two men and four women, had various injuries, and seven were pronounced dead at the scene and sent to the Police Hospital for an autopsy.
Upon request, a single male victim—a police officer—was forwarded to the Police Hospital. That evening, a second female patient who had minor injuries was attended to and released.
The hospital intended to send the truck driver’s buddy and the other four victims to Military Hospital 37. All four, however, made the decision to go to Ridge’s Greater Accra Regional Hospital and are now there.
The three female victims who are still undergoing treatment are Ms. Edina Boateng, her sister Tahiru Adama, 23, and Ms. Amanda Aboagyewaa, 24.
According to Ms. Aboagyewaa, the tragedy happened as they were returning from Accra, where they had attended their grandmother’s funeral, and were traveling from Pokuase to Kade.
