The National Women’s Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has revealed that former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mercy Adu-Gyamfi, popularly known as Ama Sey, has been avoiding her since their fallout in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
Despite multiple attempts to reconcile with Ama Sey, Gyamfua said all efforts have been unsuccessful as the former MP holds her responsible for her defeat in the party’s parliamentary primaries in Akwatia.
In an interview, Gyamfua expressed her willingness to make amends, even though she claims to have not offended Ama Sey.
“I will show the text messages I’ve sent to her. I call her, and when she hears my voice, she hangs up,” Gyamfua lamented, highlighting the strained relationship between them.
However, Gyamfua remains resolute in her pursuit of reconciliation with Ama Sey, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party for success in the upcoming general elections.
Ama Sey made history in 2016 by defeating Baba Jamal, a former NDC MP, in a highly contested election to become the first female MP for Akwatia.
Gyamfua expressed her commitment to seek the assistance of pastors in apologizing to Ama Sey, with the hope of fostering collaboration and unity within the NPP ahead of the December polls.
As the political landscape heats up, the need for internal cohesion and reconciliation within the NPP becomes crucial for a harmonious and successful campaign season.
