In the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, two people have been reported dead after they were allegedly hit by stray bullets fired by the police during a confrontation to disperse a violent crowd.

The event is said to have happened at the chief’s palace, where law enforcement had gone to free a man who was wanted for the murder of two people in the farming community of Adwumasu, Kwahu South Municipality.

Reports state that Kwasi Tenkorang, a 23-year-old ex-convict, was the suspect in the rape and murder of 45-year-old Akua Kyerewaa.

The victim’s brother, Kwasi Antwi, 65, passed away instantly after a metal bar struck his head while he was trying to save his sister.

An eyewitness, only known as Frederick, who was on his way to the farm when he saw the incident and was being pursued by the suspect, just missed dying.

The suspect, who had been avoiding capture since the incident, was captured on Sunday, February 4th, and taken to the chief’s palace.

The community stormed the palace when word got out about his arrest and demanded his immediate release in exchange for prompt justice. But the police stepped in and prevented it from occurring.

Four police motorcycles and a service vehicle were destroyed when the community members, according to Citi News, began throwing stones at the police because their frustrations were not being addressed.

When the police fired warning shots to try to disperse the crowd, five people were accidentally injured; two of them are believed to have died, and the other three are receiving treatment at the Kwahu Government Hospital in Atibie.
