A project has been initiated in the Dansoman municipality of Accra with the goal of advancing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education at the basic and junior high school levels.
The Alpha Beta School started what is known as the STEM35 Legacy Project as a part of their efforts to create a STEM Center of Excellence on campus.
In its first phase, the project—which had an initial fundraising target of $350,000—successfully renovated its science labs, improved its IT infrastructure, and installed a physical science hub.
This was disclosed by the school’s director, Dr. Naomi Adjepong, last Friday during the Founders’ Day celebration and project launch held in Accra.
The improvements to the project, according to Dr. Adjepong, will give Alpha Beta students and the neighborhood access to cutting-edge resources for experiential STEM education.
According to her, the initiative was designed to incorporate more technological advancements including enhanced Internet infrastructure and the launch of an Innovation Lab and Maker Space this year in order to make improvements.
She continued, “Alpha Beta will also participate in more local and international STEM competitions, giving students more opportunities to engage in STEM-related activities.”
