Government has made a significant decision regarding the case of Naa Okromo, also known as Naa Yoomo Ayemuede, who was at the center of controversy over her alleged marriage to Gborbu, a nungua deity.

In a recent media briefing, it was confirmed that Naa Okromo is not married to the Gborbu wulomo, putting an end to the initial inconsistencies that sparked public outrage.

Minister-designate for Gender Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, revealed that the Attorney-General’s interim report recommends releasing Naa Yoomo Ayemuede into her family’s care for the best interest of the child. The child’s parents will be required to sign a bond to ensure the protection of her rights.

Following a thorough medical assessment which determined that Naa Okromo is not pregnant and intact, it was established that she is 15 years old, born on 18th July 2008. The Attorney-General’s interim report advises reuniting her with her family, and the government will proceed with releasing her after the necessary paperwork is completed.

Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-yeboah assured the public that the office is still examining the full docket of the issue to ascertain all facts. If there are any issues that require prosecution, they will be addressed accordingly.

In light of this case, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has committed to exploring ways to modify certain traditions and cultures to align with current trends and democratic values. He emphasized the need to review and update existing practices to ensure they are in line with the Chieftaincy Act and evolving societal norms.

The government’s decision to release Naa Okromo back to her family marks a significant development in this contentious issue and underscores the importance of safeguarding the rights and welfare of all individuals, especially vulnerable minors. As the case continues to unfold, the public awaits further updates on the matter.
