The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has raised concerns about the mismanagement of taxes by the Akufo-Addo government in Ghana.
Ablakwa accused the government of not effectively utilizing the revenue generated through taxes, which he believes is hindering the country’s development.
During a discussion on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Ablakwa criticized the Finance Minister’s Mid-Year budget review presentation, stating that the government’s maintenance of certain taxes without clear benefits to the public is a waste of time. He emphasized the need for guarantees that collected funds will be used efficiently to benefit the citizens of Ghana.
Comparing Ghana’s progress to that of countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and Rwanda, Ablakwa highlighted the slow pace of development in Ghana despite being 32 years into the 4th Republic. He called for accountability and amendments to standing orders to ensure that government officials are held responsible for their actions.
Ablakwa also expressed concerns about the burden of excessive taxes on the people and urged the government to prioritize effective use of funds for the country’s advancement. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that taxes are not collected and used irresponsibly, urging for a shift towards impactful and meaningful development initiatives.
