After his mother died less than a month before his possible 15th Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Championship victory, Joey Chestnut issued a sorrowful but optimistic message.

Alicia Chestnut Cause Of Death: What happened to Alicia Chestnut?
Alicia Chestnut, the Mustard Yellow Belt winner’s mother, died in her sleep.
He said that Alicia had always been proud of him and supported his goal of being a hot-dog-eating king.
Alicia told the San Francisco Examiner in 2011 after Chestnut won his sixth tournament, “He loves to eat and they’re paying him to do it; he’s going to go with it.”
Chestnut, 38, revealed in an emotional interview before this year’s tournament that his mother died when he was a child “and “wouldn’t want me to miss the competition,” USA TODAY reported.
“It’s definitely going to be a closer game than it was last year,” he added.”
“It’s been crazy… “Practices have been spotty this year,” Chestnut noted.
However, this does not imply that Chestnut is throwing in the towel.
