An Algerian man has recently made headlines after being convicted and sentenced to two months in jail for his unique method of spreading peace and positivity on the streets.

Mohamed Ramzi, a vlogger in his 30s, received backlash from his home country of Algeria last summer for posting a TikTok video inspired by a European vlogger known for hugging random strangers as a social experiment.

Unfortunately for Ramzi, his actions were not well-received in Algeria, with public outrage and condemnation leading to legal consequences. Despite issuing an apology, Ramzi found himself facing charges of indecent behavior for his hugging video, as well as a separate charge of ‘display of indecency’ for another video featuring two girls in short skirts and one with a tattoo.

Following a court’s decision, Ramzi has been sentenced to two months in prison and fined 5 million dinars ($37,000) for his actions. Despite his intentions to spread peace and love through his videos, Ramzi’s critics and the judiciary system were not convinced.
