Following his father’s death in 1983, Baldwin was questioned by an oncologist, according to his memoirs.

“I told the doctor my father coached riflery in a high school for 28 years and he ventured that an unventilated shooting range may have been a cause,”

Baldwin said when asked if his father had worked in heavy industry or near a steel mill due to “extremely high lead level” in his blood.

Baldwin, who was 25 at the time of his father’s death, wrote in his 2017 memoir Nonetheless that seeing his father’s death was one of the most agonizing experiences of his life.

When the family requested brickwork samples to substantiate the idea, he claims the school “gutted the rifle range, incinerating all of the material” to avoid a lawsuit.
