Lady Cathy Ferguson, the late wife of late Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has unfortunately gone away, bringing sadness to the football world.
The Ferguson family acknowledged her loss in a statement provided to the PA news agency on a somber Friday afternoon.
The romance between Lady Cathy and Sir Alex began in 1964 when the legendary Scottish footballer was barely 23 years old.
Their strong bond gradually grew, and in 1966 they got married. Mark, born in 1968, and twin twins Darren and Jason, born in 1972, made up their loving family of three sons.
With the arrival of 12 grandkids and one great-grandchild, their family grew even more.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson, who is survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild,” the family’s statement said.
Lady Cathy and Sir Alex have a special relationship that was not only personal but also played a significant role in his illustrious football career.
In 2013, Sir Alex departed from his position as Manchester United’s manager.
During that time, he recognized the significance of Lady Cathy in his life.
