Albert Brenner, a production designer for movies and television, passed away on December 8 at the age of 96. Susan, his wife of almost 40 years, was by his side. He produced “Bullitt,” “The Turning Point,” “Beaches,” “Sunshine Boys,” and “California Suite,” among other well-known films.

Brenner’s talent was well regarded in the business; throughout the course of his lengthy career, he received five nominations for the Academy Awards for best art direction for the films “Beaches,” “California Suite,” “Sunshine Boys,” “The Turning Point,” and “2010: The Year We Make Contact.”

Over the course of four decades in the entertainment business, Brenner contributed to 57 films. Brenner also held the position of President of the Society of Art Directors for a short time while serving on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

After moving to Connecticut to enroll at the Yale School of Drama, Brenner, who was born on February 17, 1926, and who was raised in Brooklyn, New York, started his professional career.

His skills at the theater school paid off when he returned to New York to work as a production designer, initially on commercials before moving on to live television and feature films. In the 1960s, Brenner moved his family to Los Angeles where he began working on movies full-time.
