A member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team named Dennis Miracles Aboagye has downplayed the influence that Independent Presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen might have on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vote total in the Ashanti region for the polls scheduled for 2024.
Speaking on Citi TV’s The Citiuation Room, Aboagye expressed optimism about Dr. Bawumia’s standing, particularly in Ashanti, Volta, and Central regions.
Aboagye downplayed the significance of Kyerematen’s predicted large number of votes in these areas, saying, “I don’t think Mr. Alan Kyerematen has the gravitas to affect the party [votes] just because he’s from the Ashanti Region and the NPP.” Not in my opinion.
Recognizing the NPP and NDC’s well-established dominance, Aboagye underlined how difficult it would be for any new political party to equal their stature.
“I’ve always maintained that the NDC and NPP are two very powerful political parties. If you know anything about how a political party operates, you know that there is a tall order—an extraordinarily tall order. It will take a lot of work and probably 20 to 30 years for another political party to catch up to the NDC and NPP.
When asked if Kyerematen represented a threat to the NPP, he made it clear that the organization is not sitting back and will take the leader of the Movement for Change into consideration when formulating their plans should he make an appearance on the ballot.
Every candidate on the ballot paper believes they have a chance to win. It’s an election. And regardless of a candidate’s slot, we in the NPP take every election seriously. So why not, once he sees his name on the ballot? As a political party, we will take him into consideration in all that we do. Miracles Aboagye stated, “We are not taking any chances, we are not at all complacent, and we are not dumpling anybody’s effect.”
