American author, television host, and journalist Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. was born on August 20, 1954. The son of Jamaican-born Isabel Roker and bus driver Albert Lincoln Roker Sr., Roker was born in the Queens area of New York City. His initial career goal was to become a cartoonist. He attended Manhattan’s Xavier High School and was raised as a Catholic. His mom was a devout Catholic. In 1976, he graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a BA in communications.
He currently presents NBC’s 3rd Hour Today and gives the weather. Roker’s career with the network formally began in 1978 when he was hired by Cleveland’s WKYC, a station that was then owned and run by NBC. After five years in Cleveland, Roker was promoted to the network’s flagship station, his hometown’s WNBC-TV. Roker returned to New York City in the second part of 1983 and started providing weekend weather forecasts. He took over as the station’s nightly primetime forecaster after eight months.
