On August 20, 1954, American novelist, television host, and journalist Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. was born. The son of Jamaican-born Isabel Roker and bus driver Albert Lincoln Roker Sr., Roker was born in the Queens area of New York City. His initial career goal was to become a cartoonist. He attended Manhattan’s Xavier High School and was raised as a Catholic. His mother was a devout Catholic. He earned a BA in communications from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1976.
He currently presents NBC’s 3rd Hour Today and gives the weather. Beginning in 2009, Roker collaborated on a collection of murder investigations featuring Billy Blessing, a well-known chef turned amateur sleuth. The second book in the series, The Midnight Show Murders (2010), was nominated for a 2011 Nero Award.
A 2018 Hallmark Movies and Mysteries movie was made based on Holly Robinson Peete’s 2010 novel The Morning Show Murders, in which she played the title role.
