62-year-old Al Joyner was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on January 19, 1960.
He is noted for winning the triple jump gold medal at the 1984 Olympics and as the coach and husband of the late four-time Olympic gold medalist Florence Griffith Joyner.

Mary Ruth, his first daughter was born in 1990 when he was married to the late Flo Jo. She is currently 28 years old and works as a singer, dancer, and producer. Aside from her passion for music she has also participated in various sporting disciplines such as track & field and diving.
Joyner had her other two children with his current wife Alisha Biehn whom he wedded in 2003.
Joyner was a standout athlete at Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, Illinois. He moved on to participate for the track and field team at Arkansas State University after graduating from high school.
He won the triple jump state championship and was a four-time pole vault Southland Conference champion for the university.
