Allan Jaffee (born Abraham Jaffee; March 13, 1921 – April 10, 2023) was a cartoonist from the United States. He was most known for his work in the satirical magazine Mad, where he created his signature feature, the Mad Fold-in. Jaffee has been a regular contributor to the magazine for 65 years, making him the magazine’s longest-running contributor.
“Serious individuals my age are dead,” Jaffee observed in a 2010 interview.
Al Jaffee’s parents: Who are his father and mother?
Jaffee was born on March 13, 1921, in Savannah, Georgia, to Mildred and Morris Jaffee. He was the oldest of four sons. His parents were Jewish immigrants from the Lithuanian town of Zarasai. His father worked as a manager at a Savannah retail store.
Mildred returned to Zarasai with her four sons in 1927, with Morris’ permission. Morris returned the family to the United States after a year. Mildred returned the children to Lithuania after another year. Morris returned the eldest three sons to the United States after four years, where they lived in Far Rockaway, Queens, and subsequently returned the youngest son to the United States in 1940. Mildred was likely killed after the German invasion.
Meanwhile, Jaffee holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a comic artist, having worked from 1942 through 2020. Only one issue of Mad was released between April 1964 and April 2013 that did not feature fresh material by Jaffee.
