The American singerGreen’sgwriter, pastor, and record producer Albert Leornes Greene, better known by his stage name Al Green, was born on April 13, 1946.

Al Green’s marriage life has been very complicated. Before he got married to his first wife Shirley Green, he had a romantic relationship that ended sadly. His first girlfriend Mary Woodson assaulted him and on October 18, 1974, died by suicide at his Memphis home. After an incident in which his girlfriend died by suicide, Green became an ordained pastor and turned to gospel music. He later returned to secular music.
Al Green Got married to Shirley on June 15, 1977, in Memphis. She was one of his backing vocalists and an employee at his church and together they have three daughters.
Everyone thought their relationship was going on well until Shirley first filed for divorce in 1978 on the ground of cruelty and irreconcilable differences. The divorce wa not granted and she later filed again in 1981, charging that Green had subjected her to domestic violence throughout their marriage. The Greene family valued music, and Robert established a gospel quartet he dubbed the Greene Brothers with Al’s three elder brothers. Al’s father envisioned his family succeeding in the gospel music industry. The Soul Stirrers, Swan Silvertones, and Dixie Hummingbirds were the actual superstars among black audiences in the early 1950s.
