President Akufo-Addo’s latest reshuffle has drawn criticism from Sagnarigu MP A.B.A. Fuseini, who claims that it is intended to give resources to incumbent MPs who won their parliamentary primaries.
He described the action as a political ploy to prepare these MPs for the elections that would take place in December.
On Thursday, February 15, the Sagnarigu politician called the reshuffle a ploy for political purposes in an interview with Starr FM.
“This reshuffle that they have done is a political event President Nana Akufo-Addo has done. Go and analyze the appointees, especially the deputy ministers.”
“Number one, he has removed all those who lost elections, go and check. Any minister or deputy minister who lost his election has been removed.”
“All Members of Parliament who have voluntarily indicated that they are not coming back to Parliament, he has removed them.”
“So it’s an election gimmick to ensure that resources should be available to those he is putting in place as ministers to be able to campaign for the 2024 election,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo has finally changed his government after months of popular pressure.
A year has passed since former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto resigned to focus on their respective political campaigns.
On Tuesday, February 13, the President formally informed the Speaker of Parliament of the government’s new composition in compliance with the 1992 Constitution.
Some have been reassigned to other ministries, and other people have been appointed to ministerial roles.
