President Akufo-Addo’s recent ministerial reshuffle has drawn harsh criticism from the Minority in Parliament, which described it as bland and uninspired.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson called the reorganization a “mere remix of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia’s failed government” in a statement.
Dr. Forson stressed that the reorganization, which took place just nine months prior to the government’s departure, would not lessen the agony and challenges that the Ghanaian people are facing as a result of what he called the massive unbridled corruption and poor governance of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia administrations.
Citing the economic challenges and alleged mismanagement by Alhaji Bawumia and his economic team, he expressed skepticism about the newly appointed officials’ ability to make a meaningful impact in the remaining nine months.
Additionally, it is a little too late—coming just nine (9) months after the government’s departure. It won’t also end the misery and difficulties that the Ghanaian people are experiencing as a result of the massive unchecked corruption and poor leadership of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia administrations.
“The economic crisis, excessive borrowing, unsustainable debt, reckless wasteful expenditures, poor governance, siphoning of state resources into the private pockets of government appointees, as well as state capture by family and friends of the President and his Vice, have all been hallmarks of this government’s tenure.”
According to the records, President Akufo-Addo has consistently shown defiance and obstinacy when the topic of a reshuffle has been raised. For instance, he dismissed nearly a hundred NPP MPs who called for the resignation of departing Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta immediately,” he said.
He continued, “The NDC Minority believes that the resignations of Vice President Alhaji Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo would have been the best way to end the suffering and hardships of Ghanaians.”
