The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reassure Ghanaians of his commitment to a peaceful transition of power after the 2024 general election.

Speaking at the NDC’s National Campaign launch in Tamale, Mr. Nketiah emphasized the importance of a peaceful electoral process and called on President Akufo-Addo to lead by example.

“We are approaching a critical election, and as the President, you have a greater responsibility to ensure a smooth handover of power without any violence,” Mr. Nketiah stated.

He pointed out that previous Presidents had declared their readiness to hand over power a year before elections, and urged President Akufo-Addo to follow suit with only four months left until the polls.

Mr. Nketiah emphasized the President’s role in setting the tone for the elections and called on him to restrain his appointees from using their power for personal gain at the expense of the people.

In a direct message to the President, Mr. Aseidu Nketia highlighted the need for President Akufo-Addo to remind his appointees that the power of the masses surpasses that of any law enforcement agency.

He also urged the Council of State to fulfill its mandate of advising the President and emphasized the importance of neutrality in maintaining peace, particularly among traditional leaders and religious figures.

The NDC Chairman stressed that the success of the 2024 general election would determine Ghana’s ability to maintain peace and called on the National Peace Council to uphold its responsibilities.

As the elections draw closer, Mr. Nketiah’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of peaceful and transparent electoral processes in Ghana’s democratic journey.
