Dr. Michael Ayamga, a development economist at the University of Development Studies (UDS), has called the Akufo-Addo-led administration a failure.
He claims that the dictatorship has badly damaged Ghana’s economy and put the country in a terrible predicament.
Speaking on the AM Show on February 13, he maintained that the government is to blame for the nation’s economic downturn, pointing out that the inability of institutions to post job openings is a clear sign of institutional dysfunction.
“People are writing examinations, failing them, and then showing up with the results. Thus, nothing that you might anticipate working out does. You also cannot claim that the architect, as I have stated, is deserving of a ranking in which some merit acclaim and some denigration. Both as a school and as individuals, they were unsuccessful. Who do you believe most contributed to this issue so that we can start talking about that, if that’s how you would like us to go about it?
However, Mr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, the government’s spokesman on security and governance, disputes Dr. Ayamga’s claim that the Akufo-Addo administration has put the nation in a dire situation.
Regardless of party background, he emphasized the need of honesty in public debate when he called Dr. Ayamga’s remarks dishonest on the same broadcast.
“This government is enacting certain policies that were not in place during the previous administration. It would be dishonest to look at these two and argue that the government hasn’t done its job. We now know that there will be a change of personnel soon.”
“It is the prerogative of every government and leader to alter their minister, ministry, departments, and agency. It is related to the value chain of the leader’s observations and desired actions.”
“Naturally, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the president, is in the last stages of his administration. The president needs to make adjustments, which is what we are hearing he will do, if he wants to solidify his legacy. He must finish the tasks he hasn’t yet finished.”
