Police Investigation Fails to Link South African Businessman to Rapper AKA’s Murder

A senior police investigator looking into the murder of renowned South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, has disclosed that authorities will not be arresting KwaZulu-Natal businessman Mfundo Gcaba due to a lack of concrete evidence linking him to the assassination.

The tragic incident occurred on February 10 last year when AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, and his close friend Tibz Motsoane were fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban. Gwabeni, a taxi boss and one of the suspects, allegedly paid R800,000 to the hitmen responsible for the deaths.

During their investigation, the police reportedly discovered that Gcaba had transferred the substantial sum into Gwabeni’s account. Gwabeni then distributed over R133,000 to each of the other suspects involved in the crime.

A police officer familiar with the details of the Forbes murder case mentioned that it was straightforward to connect the seven accused individuals to the murder due to their collaboration and communication via telephone calls. Additionally, the suspects had previously faced charges together in other instances.

Despite these findings, the police source highlighted that it is currently challenging to establish a direct link between Gcaba and the murders. The officer emphasized the need to determine the motives behind Gwabeni’s actions and identify the higher-ranking individuals possibly involved in the crime.

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal National Prosecuting Authority, declined to comment on Gcaba’s exclusion from the other accused individuals in court, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

As the investigation into the murder of AKA continues, authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind the tragic loss of the talented rapper and his companion.
