Air Commodore Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo has officially taken command of the Air Force Base Takoradi on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

This appointment comes after a nine-month period of waiting for a new commander following the passing of the former Base Commander, Air Commodore Godfried Sackey Parker.

To mark his assumption of command, a Special Quarter Guard was mounted in his honor, followed by a briefing with officers at the officers’ briefing room and a durbar attended by all ranks and Defence Civilian Staff at the Ashley-Lassen hangar.

Flying Group Commander, Group Captain S.Y. Agbenyefia, welcomed the new Base Commander, describing the day as significant for the base personnel who had shown resilience and faith during the challenging period.

She expressed gratitude to all personnel for their support, highlighting the unity and strength that had kept the base stable.

Group Captain Agbenyefia also commended the Officers, Airmen, and Defence Civilian Staff for their dedication and support during her tenure.

She encouraged them to extend the same commitment to Air Commodore Atiemo, whom she described as a spirit-filled leader and inspiration to all.

In his address to the durbar, Air Commodore Atiemo expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized that he represents the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe.

He called on all personnel to work towards realizing the CAS’s vision for the base and urged them to maintain discipline and dedication to serving the Ghana Armed Forces.

During the event, Air Commodore Atiemo received the Cane of Authority, indicating his new role as Base Commander.

The Commanding Officer of the Supply Wing, Wing Commander Samuel Kwame Baah Banson, and Acting Commanding Officer of the Administration Wing, Squadron Leader Abdul Aziz Sherif Mustapha, were also present, along with other officers, airmen, and Defence Civilian Staff.

As Air Commodore Atiemo assumes command of the Air Force Base Takoradi, the focus remains on maintaining discipline, unity, and dedication to the service of the Ghana Armed Forces. The new Base Commander encourages participation in the special voting process while staying focused on military duties during the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
