Ahmed Hirsi and Ilhan Omar got engaged in 2002 and had an unofficial faith-based Islamic marriage. In 2008, they divorced within their faith tradition.
They later reconciled after Omar’s divorce from Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2011. When Omar officially got divorced, in 2017, she and Hirsi got married in 2018. However, on October 7, 2019, Omar filed for divorce from Hirsi, citing an “irretrievable breakdown” of the marriage.
Merely 37 days after his divorce, Hirsi got remarried to a nurse named Ladan Ahmed. The ceremony took place in Somalia.
