After six heptathlon competitions, Katarina Johnson-Thompson is ranked ninth

Katarina Johnson-Thompson of Great Britain is in eighth place heading into the heptathlon final at the World Championships in Oregon.

The reigning champion, who finished sixth after the four events from the previous day, produced jumps of 6.28 meters and 39.18 meters in the long jump and javelin, respectively.

She now had 5,387 points, with Anouk Vetter in first place with 6,045 points and Nafi Thiam in second place with 6,026 points.

The 800m will be the heptathlon’s last event.

After throwing the javelin an amazing 58.29 meters, Vetter of the Netherlands passed two-time Olympic champion and 2017 global champion Thiam of Belgium.

Though Thiam ran 53.01m, it wasn’t long enough to maintain the advantage.

With 5,741 points, American Anna Hall is in third place.

Johnson-Thompson overcame an Achilles rupture to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics last year, but her hopes of winning her first Olympic medal were dashed when she suffered a calf injury during the 200-meter race.

Since then, she has only competed in one complete heptathlon, placing seventh in Gotzis in May.
