Mustapha Ussif, the minister of sports, has placed the blame for athletes’ grievances regarding inadequate gear for the 2018 African Games on the Ghana Cycling Federation.
National champion Michael Naaba withdrew from the cycling competition on Sunday, March 10, following the explosion of the tube that connected to his bike.
Naaba’s lack of a spare bicycle led him to withdraw from the race. “I’ve been training with the same equipment. Here on the Ablekuma Highway, I have been training. each day following work. Also, before work (dawn),
However, the tube was the problem. I have no choice but to utilize the same tube I’ve been using for training for the competition, Anyaba remarked.
According to Mustapha Ussif, the Cycling Federation failed to fulfil its obligation by failing to provide the necessary equipment list.
“All the federations were asked to submit their requirements by the Local Organizing Committee and the Ministry.”
“Basketball provided their list, which we reviewed with them and acquired all of the necessary equipment for.” The minister stated this during the news conference on Monday.
“We have acquired every piece of gear needed for the federations. Thus, it is your duty as a federation to submit your list to us, and we will obtain it if you are the Cycling Federation and you are aware that you require a fibre bicycle rather than an aluminium bicycle, Mustapha Ussif stated.
