A substantial reorganization of the majority front bench is expected in the wake of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent Valentine’s Day ministerial reshuffle. Alexander Afenyo-Markin is expected to take over as Majority Leader in Parliament, according to citinewsroom.com.
Afenyo-Markin, the current Deputy Majority Leader, is expected to succeed Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the report stated.
Though it is still unclear if Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu would continue in his government role, signs point to him being named the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto Committee Chairman.
The incumbent Majority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh Dompreh, is expected to become the Deputy Majority Leader.
The current First Deputy Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, will have the opportunity to take over the Majority Chief Whip position whenever this changeover takes place.
According to the article, Patricia Appiagyei will take over as First Deputy Majority Chief Whip once Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who is set to become the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, steps down.
Additionally, reports indicate that Sefwi-Akontombra MP Alex Tetteh Djornobuah will probably be named Second Deputy Chief Whip.
This reorganization occurs in advance of the NPP’s National Council meeting, which is expected to be very important and where a number of issues, including the realignment of the majority front bench in parliament, will be discussed.
In related news, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is scheduled to present his campaign team to the party’s national council and national executive committee today.
It has been predicted that Dan Botwe, the former minister of local government and rural development, will be designated campaign manager for the general elections of 2024 among the much awaited announcements.
