President Akufo-Addo has named Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, as the new Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The announcement came through a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo.

Afenyo-Markin will be taking over from Herbert Krapa, who has transitioned to the role of Minister of State at the Energy Ministry. Krapa had previously stepped in for Keli Gadzekpo, who resigned from the position on March 26.

In the letter, it was stated, “The President of the Republic has nominated Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin (MP), Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited.” The necessary steps to implement this nomination were also outlined according to the Companies Act 2019 (Act 992) and the company’s regulations.

This new appointment brings a fresh perspective to the leadership of ECG and is expected to drive positive change within the organization. Afenyo-Markin’s experience and expertise in the political landscape will likely contribute to the development and growth of the electricity sector in Ghana.

As Afenyo-Markin assumes his new role, stakeholders are looking forward to the impact he will make in ensuring efficient and reliable electricity services for the people of Ghana. The appointment reflects President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to strengthening key sectors of the economy through strategic leadership placements.
