Adult content will be officially allowed on Elon Musk’s X after policy update

Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has made a bold move by updating its policies to officially allow adult content.

Under the new guidelines, users can now share sexualized content as long as it is consensual and appropriately labeled.

The company announced this new policy on June 3 through a tweet from its Safety X handle. According to the announcement, users are now permitted to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes, as long as it is consensually produced and distributed. This includes both visual and written forms of sexual expression, which are considered legitimate forms of artistic expression.

However, the revised policy still includes restrictions to protect children and adult users who prefer not to see sexual content. Users will not be allowed to share content that promotes exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization, harm to minors, or obscene behaviors.

This move marks a shift towards a more accepting stance on sexual content compared to the platform’s previous regulations before Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022. Unlike other social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, Twitter has never explicitly banned nudity and sexualized content.

During Musk’s tenure, X has significantly reduced moderation on the platform and reinstated previously banned accounts, including those of former US President Donald Trump and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Musk has defended these actions as upholding freedom of speech, but critics argue that he is enabling hate speech and misinformation.
