Adlene Harrison was a politician in the United States.
In 1923, Harrison was born in her parents’ Park Row home in South Dallas. She grew up in the city and attended the University of Missouri after graduating from what is now James Madison High School.
She left college during World War II and joined the Red Cross, and later worked in retail — including at Neiman Marcus before getting involved in politics.
She was the first female mayor of Dallas and a key figure in the establishment of DART.
She was elected to the Dallas City Council three times from 1973 and 1977.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Harris was an outspoken defender of the environment, public transit, and reproductive rights.
She died of natural causes at her North Dallas home on February 19, 2022.
She was 98 years old at the time.
