The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) recently made history by hosting the 3rd Africa Media Convention in Accra, Ghana.
This event marks the first time a journalists association or union in Africa has hosted this convention, reaffirming Ghana’s position as a leader in the media industry on the continent.
The theme for this year’s convention, “The African media we want: Enhancing Freedom, Innovation and Environmental Sustainability in a dynamic world,” sets the tone for crucial discussions around media freedom, innovation, and environmental sustainability. Participants from various countries will engage in thoughtful dialogue to shape the future of journalism in Africa.
Ghana’s World Press Freedom index has shown improvement, moving from the 62nd to 50th position this year. This progress is attributed to the collaborative efforts of media partners and the government in addressing press freedom concerns. The GJA, along with its sponsors and partners, continue to work towards promoting press freedom and ensuring credible election coverage as Ghana prepares for the December polls.
In addition to discussing pressing issues in the media industry, foreign participants are encouraged to explore the beauty and diversity of Ghana. From the bustling city of Accra to the breathtaking natural landscapes, Ghana offers a rich tapestry of experiences for visitors to enjoy.
The successful organization of the 3rd Africa Media Convention would not have been possible without the dedication of the Local Organising Committee, Steering Committee, AMC Secretariat, and GJA Secretariat. Their efforts are commendable, and their commitment to excellence has ensured a fruitful gathering for all participants.
As the convention progresses, participants are urged to engage in meaningful deliberations and exchange of ideas to shape the future of media in Africa. The GJA remains grateful for the support and looks forward to the outcomes of this important event.
