Actor Leszek Długoszm dies at 82

Leszek Długosz, a famous poet, singer, and composer, died on Saturday at his home in Kraków, at the age of 82. He was suffering from cancer.

Długosz was a multi-talented individual who worked as an actor, pianist, scriptwriter for documentaries and TV shows, contributor to many publications, and broadcaster.

Długosz was born in Zaklików, southern Poland, in 1941. He traveled to Kraków to study at the Polish Studies Department at Jagiellonian University and has since become an integral part of the city’s artistic life.

He was a co-founder and legendary personality at Kraków’s famous literary cabaret, ‘Cellar under the Rams’.

Długosz, a poet since 1973, has produced over a dozen books. His discography consists of ten LPs and CDs.

His various awards included the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Reborn Poland, the Silver Gloria Artis Medal of Merit for Culture, and the Polish Radio’s Honorary Golden Microphone.

On his 80th birthday two years ago, Długosz was awarded the Order of the White Eagle, the highest Polish governmental accolade.
