Actor Charles Dierkop passes away at 87: Known for roles in ‘The Sting’, ‘Butch Cassidy’, and ‘Police Woman’

Charles Dierkop, the beloved actor known for his roles in iconic films like “The Sting” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” passed away at the age of 87 at a hospital in Sherman Oaks. The actor reportedly suffered from a heart attack and pneumonia.

Originally from Wisconsin, Dierkop began his acting career with an uncredited role alongside Paul Newman in “The Hustler.” He went on to work with Newman again in “Butch Cassidy” and in the Oscar-winning movie “The Sting.”

Dierkop also found success on television, appearing in various popular series like “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible,” and “The Andy Griffith Show.” He was a series regular on NBC’s “Police Woman” from 1974 to 1978.

In the 1980s and 90s, Dierkop continued to make guest appearances on shows like “Simon & Simon,” “The Fall Guy,” and “MacGyver.” He also ventured into the world of B-movies and his last credited role was in the 2018 film “Heaven & Hell.”

The actor is survived by his daughter, Lynn. Dierkop’s contributions to both film and television will always be remembered by his fans and colleagues in the industry.
