Hearts of Oak assistant coach, Abdul Bashir, expressed his frustration over missed opportunities as the team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Accra Lions in the Ghana Premier League clash on Wednesday.
Following the match, Bashir spoke to StarTimes and noted that despite creating numerous scoring chances, Hearts of Oak failed to capitalize on them.
“We started the game so positively. We had plenty of opportunities to finish the game in the first half. However, we were unable to convert those chances. Even in the second half, we dominated the game but still couldn’t find the back of the net. It’s disappointing that Accra Lions managed to score and punish us,” Bashir lamented.
The assistant coach acknowledged the solid defense and impressive goalkeeping from Accra Lions, which made it difficult for Hearts of Oak to score. Despite the setback, Bashir emphasized that his team had plenty of chances to punish their opponents and believes they were the better side overall.
“We had our chances, but we couldn’t take advantage of them. Accra Lions capitalized on their opportunity and secured the win. We need to be more clinical in front of goal. Our fans are a crucial part of our success, and we urge them to continue supporting us,” he added.
Looking ahead to their next match against Berekum Chelsea, Bashir assured fans that Hearts of Oak would work hard in training to bounce back and secure a positive result. With determination and commitment, the team aims to deliver a better performance in their upcoming game.
