Accra Great Olympics, a Ghana Premier League club based in the capital city, is determined to escape the relegation zone, according to their Public Relations Officer (PRO), Saint Osei.
The team has been struggling with an inconsistent season, suffering three consecutive defeats in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League. The Dade Boys, as they are popularly known, were defeated 1-0 by league leaders Samartex, 1-0 by reigning champions Medeama, and 2-1 by Legon Cities.
As a result of these losses, Accra Great Olympics find themselves in a precarious position, currently sitting in the 16th spot on the league table with 33 points from 29 games.
Despite the challenges the team is facing, PRO Saint Osei remains positive about their chances of survival. He believes that their current position is only temporary and that they will soon climb up the table.
Osei expressed, “The position we are in now is just a temporary stay; we will definitely move away from there. Last season and this season, our league has been very competitive. Look at the points build-up; the margins are very close. The team from the 9th or 10th position could still fall into the relegation zone somewhere along the line. We slacked a little bit and didn’t take advantage of some of our home matches, but management has spoken to the players and things are being put in order. We will wake up and leave the position we find ourselves in. Something good will come out of it after our upcoming match, and we will not be in our current position; we will move forward.”
Accra Great Olympics is gearing up for a tough fight to secure their place in the league and avoid relegation. Fans of the Dade Boys are hoping for a turnaround in fortunes and a strong finish to the season.
