Academic City University College has recently rolled out an innovative MSc Cyber Security program aimed at safeguarding Africa’s digital infrastructure and promoting innovation in the region.

The introduction of this program is part of a larger effort to enhance Africa’s digital landscape and propel economic development. In today’s interconnected world, cyber security plays a critical role in ensuring long-term growth and global competitiveness.

The MSc Cyber Security program at Academic City is designed to equip graduates with advanced expertise in cyber security, enabling them to analyze critical issues and develop practical skills to combat evolving threats in the digital realm.

Through hands-on training and real-world scenarios, students in this program will develop practical cyber security analysis skills to effectively address the complexities of cyber threats. The curriculum emphasizes multi-dimensional problem-solving and provides insights into risk management, ensuring a holistic approach to cyber defense.

According to ISC2, the global cyber security workforce was estimated to be 5.5 million in 2023, with a growth rate of 8.7% between 2022 and 2023, leading to nearly 440,000 new positions. All regions experienced growth in the cyber workforce size, with the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions leading with annual increases of 11.7% and 11.8%, respectively.

Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City, highlighted the significance of the new program in the context of Africa’s digital transformation. He emphasized the importance of empowering individuals and organizations to thrive in an increasingly digitized world.

David Gowu, Executive Director of the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH), underscored the critical need for cyber security experts in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. He commended Academic City for introducing the MSc in Cyber Security to equip professionals with the necessary skills to address cybersecurity challenges effectively.

The two-year MSc Cyber Security program is set to commence in September 2024, requiring applicants to hold a BSC from an accredited university with a minimum of second-class upper or lower.
