Abdul-Nabi Namazi died at the age of 75 on Sunday, January 28, 2024, and was surrounded by his family. There was no cause of death record at the time of his death publication. He could have died a peaceful death in his sleep.

However, Abdul-Nabi Namazi was the prosecutor-general for the judiciary of the Islamic Republic and received some notoriety in 2002 when he was criticized by the conservative newspaper Jumhuri Eslami, for “flagrantly” ignoring Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s order to review a death sentence handed down to Hashem Aghajari for apostasy for a speech he gave on Islam urging Iranians to “not blindly follow” Islamic clerics.
