Abdul Hamid Bakal, a Bruneian nobleman and an outstanding Muslim scholar who held several high-ranking positions in the Government of Brunei was born on 2 July 1939 and passed away on 2 February 2024 at the age of 85.

On July 1, 2008, Abdul Hamid was named to the Legislative Council; in September 2011, he represented Brunei Darussalam at the 32nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Cambodia. He was also a member of the Privy Council, the Council of Succession, the Islamic Religious Council, and the Council of State Customs.

Abdul Hamid Bakal passed away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 84. Before being buried in Bukit Sadur Muslim Cemetery in Tanjong Nangka, his funeral rites were conducted at Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong, where Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, members of the Royal family, state dignitaries, and his colleagues were present.
