Abbas Jirari was born on the 15th of February 1937. He worked for the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the 1960s while studying Arabic language and literature at the University of Cairo in Egypt.

Abbas Jirari was an academic at Rabat’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Jirari was among the 138 signatories to the open letter promoting communication between Muslims and Christians.

After being named Ambassador to the United States in October 1997, he resigned from that role and served as such until November 2000.

He publicly opposed Roberto Madrazo, the PRI’s presidential nominee, and actively backed Felipe Calderón Hinojosa of the National Action Party before the 2006 general election, all while keeping his party membership.
