A beautiful ceremony was recently held in Appiatse, as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team unveiled one hundred and twenty-four housing units for victims of a disaster that occurred two years ago.
The joy on the faces of the residents was palpable as they finally saw their community being restored.
The government has received praise for fulfilling its promise to rebuild the Appiatse Community. However, amidst the celebrations, there are untold stories of individuals who continue to suffer from life-threatening injuries sustained during the tragedy. These victims, who live outside Appiatse, have been left out of the housing project and are struggling to make ends meet.
One such victim is Samuel Donkor, a Workshop Manager, who was caught in the explosion while on his way to work. He has undergone multiple surgeries and has spent a significant amount of money trying to heal his injuries. Despite some initial assistance from his company and the Appiatse Committee, Samuel feels abandoned and forgotten.
Similarly, Joseph Arhin, a former employee of the Physical Planning Department, has been bedridden for the past two years after losing his leg in the accident. He has sold his assets to pay for medical bills and has received little to no support from the government or other organizations.
These individuals are pleading for assistance and recognition from those in power. They are facing immense challenges in their journey to recovery and are in desperate need of help.
It is time for their voices to be heard, and for actions to be taken to support them in rebuilding their lives. Life must go on for these victims, and it is up to the authorities to ensure that they are not left behind in their struggle for survival.
