Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday, Arsenal and FC Zurich observed a moment of silence for her, although it was cut short at the conclusion by jeers and boos from the home crowd.
Before the second half of the Europa League match began, the two teams formed a circle around the center circle to observe a moment of silence in honor of the Queen.
The moment of reflection was signaled by the referee’s whistle and a large-screen image of Her Majesty in black and white.
Several spectators in the stands appeared to be in shock, even though many of them would have only learned about the Queen’s passing over the stadium tannoy.
Although the silence was generally respected, after about 40 seconds the home fans began to appear restless and began booing, jeering, and whistling.
The players split up and took their positions on the field before the entire minute had passed as a result, breaking the silence early.
