Dancehall artist Stonebwoy has garnered praise from Haitian-American musician Wyclef Jean, who has referred to the Ghanaian performer as a “genius.”
Stonebwoy received an invitation to Wyclef Jean’s New York residence. Wyclef Jean is well-known for his hits, including “Gone Till November.”
A video that went viral on social media and was seen by GhanaWeb had Wyclef praising Stonebwoy for keeping the connection between Africa and the diaspora alive and saying that he has been following the legendary Ghanaian musician for some time.
“Once somebody can get past the separation and the illusion, then they realize we are one. And now, when you are one, language doesn’t matter anymore because you’re dealing with what we used to deal with, vibration…” said Wyclef.
Another video shows Wyclef and Stonebwoy enjoying dinner together while Stonebwoy educates him on the Ghanaian delicacy Waakye.
Stonebwoy’s ability to advance Africa’s international reputation led Wyclef to label him a “genius.”
“Insanely talented. Not even talent; how do I define genius? Because I’m a genius. I don’t define genius… you’re hot forever, and you’re doing trends. That’s not what makes you a genius.
“A genius is… can you move a generation forward? And long after you’ve gone, can that generation keep moving forward?
“That’s why I say he’s a genius. I’ve watched him for a very long time. What he has done is he has moved Africa forward,” he said.
Livingstone Etse Satekla, best known by his stage name Stonebwoy, embarked on a global tour after releasing his eagerly awaited “Fifth Dimension” album.
The tour’s itinerary included performances in the US, Europe, and Australia, culminating in a sell-out engagement in Ghana’s Accra Sports Stadium.
